History

The word tattoo comes from the Tahitian word tattau, which means "to mark". The art of tattooing has been performed for thousands of years dating back to about 2000B.C where tattoos have been found on Egyptian and Nubian mummies. The church outlawed tattooing in 787A.D. and for nearly a thousand years it remained an underground tribal tradition. Europeans rediscovered it when exploration brought them into contact with Polynesians and American Indians in 1769.

Cosmetic Tattooing, also known as Intradermal Pigmentation or Permanent Make-up is a beautiful marriage of art and science. The art of tattooing combined with the science of color technology enables a talented permanent cosmetic technician to enhance a client's natural beauty. With the use of very fine needles, iron oxide pigment (not ink) is inserted into the dermal layer of the skin, just beneath the epidermis. This method of inserting pigment into the skin is used for a variety of permanent cosmetic enhancements. This tattoo art, which mimics makeup, enhances beauty without having to deal with daily applications of many expensive products and lasts many years. It is also a valuable procedure for camouflaging scars, burns, and skin pigmentation variances caused by Vitiligo, correcting some facial irregularities/asymmetries or to further enhance facial rejuvenation and post-operative treatments.

The most commonly requested procedures are permanent eyebrows, eyelash enhancement, eyeliner, and lip liner/color.
